History

"The Arab American Association of Bloomington, started in 1994, is a social/cultural group for any and all persons of Arab background and/or connection through family relationships. The Association's primary purpose is friendship and mutual support, through potluck dinners three or four times a year, but it also plays a broader cultural role. The Association's calligraphy activity and display of Middle Eastern arts and crafts have been part of the Lotus Blossoms festival for several years; it participates in other cultural events such as the Bloomington Multicultural Festival in 2002; has sponsored concerts by the Salam Middle Eastern musical group, for the public; and occasionally provides speakers for talks about Arab cultures for schools and similar groups."
