THE ETHNIC HOOSIER .......December 2002

Supplement for members of the Nationalities Council of Indiana, Inc.

 

1.      My apologies to the Taiwanese-American Association of Indianapolis! They won not one, but TWO grand prizes at this year�s International Festival.

TAAI took home the Grand Prize for the best ethnic group food booth AND the Grand Prize for the best cultural booth!

Other award winners were: Taste of Congo (1st prize, food booth), and for culture booths by category: Theme � Czech-Slovak Society (runner-up), Barangay Club (1st); educational value � Society for the Preservation of Persian Culture (runner-up), Latvian Community Center (1st); creativity � Slovenian Cultural Society (runner-up), Japan-America Society of Indiana (1st), and quality � Indianapolis Minyo Dancers (runner-up), Sons of Norway (1st).

 

2.      Y�all come! Mark your calendars for 18 January 2003. That�s when you need to bring the very best in ethnic cuisine to the annual Winter Gala! Cecelia Rose-Dickinson is chairman, and she�ll be mailing more information after the holidays. It�ll be in St. Alban�s Episcopal Church, corner of Emerson and 46th Street, Indianapolis � the same place as last year. All NCI members � and members of all NCI ethnic member groups � are invited to attend. In addition to our super-duper pitch-in dinner, there�ll be entertainment from our members AND our new officers and board members will be introduced.

 

3.      The Nationalities Council does NOT have a meeting this month (according to our By-Laws, we don�t meet in December or January). Ethnic group representatives have the time off!

 

4.      However, there will be a special gathering of the current and incoming board members only at 7 p.m. Monday, 9 December, in the Willkie Room of the Athenaeum, 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis. 5.      Although The Ethnic Hoosier goes to all who are (or might be) interested, this supplement is prepared just for NCI members.
