Supplement for members of the
Nationalities Council of Indiana, Inc.
1. The Nationalities Council is participating in a programof a programof a programof the Diversity Round Table of Central Indiana, thanks to the tireless efforts of NCI board member Jos Lusende. The invitation meant that we had to come up with 300 copies of a generic NCI brochure by the end of June. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the staff at the Promotion Company who handled typesetting, layout AND printing, we met that deadline. Whew! Well have copies of that rush job at the meeting for review (so we can refine it and publish more!).
2. I hope everyone saw the cover story in The Indianapolis Star on Sunday, 30 June, quoting your president (me!) and long-time NCI volunteer Ruth Reichmann about the hidden ethnicity of Indiana. If not, see: http://nationalitiescouncil.org/star_changingface.htm.
3. Does your ethnic group have a food booth planned for the festival? Remember that you can go about this in two major ways. First, your group can organize one. Second, your group can sponsor a restaurant, caterer or other food vendor to operate one in your name. In this case, your group has a chance not only to feature its traditional cuisine at the festival, but can work out an agreement with the vendor to share profits from sales. Its much more expensive to come into the festival as a commercial vendor, and many restauranteurs would appreciate the opportunity to showcase their wares under an ethnic groups umbrella!
4. The Indianapolis-Cologne Sister City Committee, in collaboration with Deutsche Telecom AG, Cologne, is arranging an intern project in Indianapolis this summer. Theyre looking for host families for two male and three female trainees from 21 July through 1 September. The interns all speak English and will provide their own transportation to and from their work assignments, which are being arranged by the local Sister City Committee. If you can help, call George Wehrle, 317:815-0017.
5. The Swiss Club of Central Indiana will be doing a bus trip to the Swiss Festival in Berne, Ind., Saturday, 27 July. Club members (of course) have first dibs, but theyre offering "space available" reservations from anyone in the NCI who is interested in going. Jim Weinmann is the person to contact: [email protected] or 317:257-2856.
6. The 2002 International Festival team was assembled at the May. In addition to the assignments as noted then, each board member also will take a turn in the NCI booth at the festival. Please plan ahead for that (minimal) time commitment!
