Supplement to The Ethnic Hoosier for June 2003

First, some happy news:

Our past president, Chuck Lindgren, will marry Marty Scott at 3:30 PM, 28 June in Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 South Green Street (State Road 267), Brownsburg.

There'll be a reception afterwards at The Home Place, 6734 Millside Drive (Mooresville Road), Indianapolis, IN 46221. It's a pitch-in. And, the couple requests no wedding gifts, please because "we have enuf stuff". Instead, "Come celebrate with us and listen to the Wonderful Songs of The Commander's Trio."

Now, back to necessary administrative stuff:

Gene won't be at our June meeting, so Josef Laposa will be the master of ceremonies. The Polish Cultural Society is doing the "getting to know you" section, and Nancy Berst, grantwriter, will be introduced. Ahmet will have a report on his outreach program.  Pat will have stuff to say about the festival, and we hope that Shola Ajiboye will be there to tell us the lineup for this year's 10-day African Unity Festival.

Although Joe Cerda has resigned as treasurer, he remains a board member. Nonetheless, we need a treasurer to fill his unexpired term. Although the by-laws don't specifically address filling an officer slot in this situation, we're going to assume that we should give everyone 30 days' notice of any election, including this one.

Therefore, at our NEXT meeting, 14 July 2003, we will vote on a replacement treasurer. Nominees thus far are Nelleke Bruyn and Naty Dumaual. Nominations, with the consent of the nominee (written or verbal), also will be accepted from the floor. Remember that only the authorized representatives of ethnic groups whose dues have been paid in full for 2003 can vote in this NCI election.

On the topic of planning for the future:

Sen. Richard G. Lugar has been tapped as the International Citizen of the Year for 2003. Many of you recall his pivotal role in gaining recognition for the contributions of Indianapolis' ethnic citizens during his years as mayor. The NCI might want to honor his continuing contributions to international peace and global understanding by buying a table at the dinner in his honor on 13 September, with each person or group attending responsible for the cost of that ticket (price unknown, but probably $125). Comments?

And, finally..

K.P. Singh is putting final touches on a book for Guild Press including more than 200 of his architectural drawings from around the world and several dozen essays. Let's hope it's published in time for him to hold a book signing at the International Festival in November!
