[posted February 2001]: Indiana Consortium for International Programs (ICIP) and the Center for International Education and Development Assistance (CIEDA) at IU-Bloomington are collaborating in a four-year institutional development project for the American University of Kyrgyzstan (AUK) (in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) with funding from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The project provides exchange visits for periods ranging from three weeks to 10 months for up to 30 ICIP faculty and administrators and 22 AUK faculty and staff. The visits include training, curriculum development, and research activities. In addition, 13 AUK faculty will study for MA degree programs in the social sciences and humanities at 3 ICIP member universities.
Currently, the project is seeking interest from ICIP faculty in US History for a one-semester curriculum development/teaching assignment at AUK in the 2001-2002 academic year. The project would pay salary replacement for one semester, benefits, RT travel, visa costs, housing, excess baggage and medical evacuation insurance. Anyone interested in this possibility should contact Charles Reafsnyder at IU-Bloomington, 812:855-8882, or e-mail.
Finally, the AUK project provides a substantial sum for the shipping of donated books. Several retiring ICIP members have already contributed substantial personal collections. Faculty who have complimentary copies of books and journals or other text and book materials in the social sciences and humanities and would like to donate them to AUK should contact Julie O'Sullivan, e-mail.
Anyone interested in having speakers or a program for classes or other occasions on Krygyzstan/Central Asia presented by AUK visiting faculty and graduate students should contact Kay Ikranagara to discuss possible arrangements, e-mail.
