Norbert Krapf
Norbert Krapf was raised in Jasper, Indiana, a region influenced to this day by German-Catholic immigrants. This background is reflected in many of Krapf's poems, which celebrate the spirit of place and ancestry. Krapf graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. He received his doctorate from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend before moving to the East Coast. For the past 30 years he has taught at Long Island University where he now directs the C.W. Post Poetry Center. His poetry volumes include the trilogy Somewhere in Southern Indiana, Blue-Eyed Grass: Poems of Germany and Bittersweet Along the Expressway: Poems of Long Island. Krapf's most recent collection of poetry is called The Country I Come From, a title borrowed from Bob Dylan who has provided inspiration for this book, along with native American poets and the great Walt Whitman.
