Congressman Pence was first elected to the U.S House of Representatives in November 2000. He serves in the House leadership as a Deputy Majority Whip. Considered an ardent supporter of the U.S. military and the war on terrorism, Pence has made several trips overseas since the September 11 attacks, most recently to Pakistan and Afghanistan in December 2004. In Afghanistan, Pence met with President Hamid Karzai. In early 2004, he traveled to Iraq to visit U.S. forces, Ambassador Paul Bremer, Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, and Iraqi citizens. In 2003, Pence was part of a congressional delegation that made stops at air bases in the United Kingdom and Germany, as well as aboard the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. Pence is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, where he serves on the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.
