Jessica Newburg of the "500" Festival will be the guest speaker at our next meeting. All are welcome to join us at 7 p.m. Monday, 12 April, in the Athenaeum,Indianapolis.

 

NCI is working with the Japan-America Society of Indiana on plans to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Japan-U.S. Relations with events this September. Collaborative efforts also are underway with the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, Indianapolis City Market and Indpls Consulate of Slovakia.

The Indianapolis consulate of Slovakia will be officially opened 3 May by His Excellency Rastislav Kacer, Ambassador of  the  Slovak  Republic  to  the  United States? Steve Zlatos is Indy's first honorary consul for Slovakia.

 

John Clark, senior fellow at Hudson Institute, was on Taiwan 16-22 March as a guest of the Republic of China government to observe the presidential elections?

 

Laurie Laurendeau of Carmel offers an introductory program in French next June and July for children entering 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade next fall? E-mail: [email protected].

St. Vincent Health, which includes 16 facilities in central Indiana , has $70 million budgeted for charity care this year, including international cases? One of the beneficiaries is 3-year-old Urte Balciunaite of Lithuania, who is receiving extensive treatment for neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow along nerves or anywhere in the body. Her story was outlined in The Indianapolis Star 10 March 2004.

Shahid Athar, a Pakistani-American and Indianapolis physician, wrote a book titled Healing the Wounds of September 11, 2001: Reflections of an American Muslim? It was published by 1st Books Library in October 2003.
