Its a wrap! ! The 25th anniversary edition of the International Festival was full of the sights, sounds and tastes of the world, right here in Indiana, thanks to the terrific job done by the NCI Festival team and all the participating ethnic groups, entertainers and vendors and, of course, the staff of the Promotion Company (especially Pat Hubley!). (We exceeded our goal with more than 10,000 in attendance.) The exit survey supervised by IUPUI professor (and active NCI volunteer) Ain Haas turned up some surprises: the number one reason people came to our Festival was its educational value (confirming our conviction that the cultural booths are the heart and soul of our event)! Then, visitors wanted ethnic food, entertainment and a global bazaar. We were successful in reaching a new, wider audience: 85% of those surveyed said it was their first time at a Festival! Phil Hu will be updating the Festival website with this years photos and other details, as well as posting new information on the 2002 event (http://www.indyinternationalfestival.org).
NCI update: we have a new, and easier, address for the Nationalities Councils website. Check out the ever-evolving portal at http://www.nationalitiescouncil.org. And, finally, NCI group members will celebrate the season together at our annual Winter Gala on 19 January 2002. We resume our regular meetings at 7 p.m. Monday, 11 February 2002, in the Athenum, 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis. See you there!
