THE ETHNIC HOOSIER
... February 2002
Supplement for members of the Nationalities
Council of Indiana, Inc.
- Attention
all ethnic group representatives: get those dues checks into NCI
treasurer Naty Dumaual at your earliest convenience. You can mail them to
her (8526 Canterbury Square West, Indianapolis 46260) or to NCI (PO Box
1623, Indianapolis 46206) or bring them to the meeting on 11 February or
11 March at the absolute latest! Svea Lodge 253 of VASA Order of America
wins the prize for the earliest dues payment for 2002: Swan Swanson
hand-delivered the check to me at the Winter Gala in January! The rest of
you get busy. Both Naty and Gene Maresca (Membership Chairman) will be
stalking you if you dont.
- Emma
Hulse will be our guest speaker at the 11 February meeting. Just 14 years
old, shes the mastermind for Piece by Piece, a 2002 calendar about
diversity published by Y-press, the childrens news bureau. Jim Weinmann (NCI rep from the Swiss
Club) spotted her at a Race Relations Leadership Network meeting and
suggested that NCI members would be interested in her project. Bring $10,
because youll want to buy a copy of the calendar after you meet her!
- Were
going to put together a brochure of all the international festivals in
central Indiana to be published as part of Mayor Petersons cultural
tourism initiative. Does your group sponsor a festival? Bring details,
including the dates for 2002, 2003 and 2004 to the 11 February meeting or
e-mail [email protected].
- Were
also going to sponsor workshops this year, some just for members and some
for the general public. Well talk about topics at the 11 February
meeting. Ideas include a fund-raising seminar for us, international
student services, etc.
- Winners
of the Mayors Cultural Diversity Awards were Childrens Bureau of Indpls,
Fiesta Indianapolis, IUPUI, Riverside Community Corrections Corporation,
Turner Construction, United Way and Visteon Corporation.
- Everyone
is welcome to attend NCI general meetings on the second Monday of each
month (except December and January). We welcome new members.
- Although
The Ethnic Hoosier goes to all who are interested, this supplement
is prepared for NCI members.
- Got a
website? Tell us so we can add a link to your group and, from your
groups site, please add a link to ours:
http://www.nationalitiescouncil.org.
While youre at it, check your groups information on our site to be sure
its up to date.
- By the
way, the NCI site-in-progress has two domain names that send web surfers
to the same place. You can use either http://www.nationalitiescouncil.org
or http://www.indyinternational.info.
(I tend to give out the second when its somebody less interested in NCI
and more interested in the ethnicity of central Indiana!) The festival
site remains the same (and, its linked from the NCI site, too): http://www.indyinternationalfestival.org.
Spread the word!
