Nationalities Council members participate in a competition at the annual International Festival designed to reward creativity and innovation in their cultural and food booths. This years overall winner was the Barangay Club of Indiana.
Among cultural booths, Ballet Fiesta took first place and the Scottish Society of Indianapolis was runner-up for theme; Indiana German Heritage Society was first, and Swiss Club of Central Indiana runner-up for educational value; Taiwanese-American Association was first and Japan-American Society of Indiana runner-up for creativity, and Minyo Club of Indianapolis first and Indiana Association for Chinese Americans runner-up for quality.
The Taiwanese-American Association of Indianapolis took the grand prize for food booths, and Omo-Obukun African Cultural Resource Center won first place.
Judging chairman was Chao-Hung Lee. Congratulations to the winners and may their efforts spur even better booths at Indys International Festival in 2002!
Yall come! All members of all ethnic groups that participate in NCI, plus all associate and individual members, are invited to our annual Winter Gala. This is a social event, filled with friends, good food and great entertainment.
Its a pitch-in: bring enough food for three times the number of people in your party (and label it, so we know which exotic delicacy were sampling). Betty Bunnell is keeping track of whos bringing what, so please call her at 317:894-0036.
If your group would like to perform, please check with Cecelia Dickinson, 317:546-5807. Steve Schurtter (317:745-3141) is looking for raffle donations.
The Winter Gala begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, 19 January, in St. Albans Episcopal Church, 4601 North Emerson Avenue, Indianapolis. Cecelia Dickinson is chairman.
Got a website? Please add a link to ours: http://www.nationalitiescouncil.org. And, while youre at it, check your groups information on our site to be sure its up to date. We resume our regular meetings at 7 p.m. Monday, 11 February 2002, in the Athenum, 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis. See you there!
