NCI Update

The United States Government has set up the web site (called SEVIS) that the nation's colleges and universities will use to register foreign students. It's the first step in the government's plan to track the movements of everyone who enters the United States with a temporary visa.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service says that schools that have received permission to register foreign students for three years may begin to use the Web site immediately. It becomes mandatory Jan. 30. At that point, schools not approved to use the Web site will not be allowed to register foreign students.
