Presidents
Message.
Even though this
message was drafted only a few days ago, I have no
idea what the world situation will be at the time you read it.
The headlines are
full of evidence of disrespect, distrust, and lack of understanding at the
highest levels of world leadership, all too often abetted by blind obedience
from their followers.
Our mission is, and
has always been, to foster the kind of cultural awareness and acceptance that
prevents this sort of thing.
Thats why our International Festival has always
been about the CULTURES we represent.
The food and the entertainment and the items
the vendors sell are all representative of certain wonderful parts of those
cultures, and help us to enrich our own lives by enjoyment of them, but on a
deeper level, youll also get to know the PEOPLE.
We also do some
outreach, and, by the time you read this, our board will have met to chart our
course in the near term and perhaps beyond. Our website and The Ethnic
Hoosier have been a part of this outreach, as has our participation in the
Race Relations Leadership Network of the Greater Indianapolis Progress
Committee, our support of the Indianapolis Diplomatic Corps, and other efforts
for which we were recently given special recognition
at the Mayors Celebration of Diversity Awards luncheon.
If you share our
view that this is an important job for these times, we invite you to join us,
in person or in spirit, and applications for membership are
attached. It makes all the
difference in the world when you go to the Festival and can say This is what
WE do !!
And, just maybe, it
may make all the difference in the world . PERIOD !
