THE ETHNIC HOOSIER ................ May 2002
Supplement for members of the
Nationalities Council of Indiana, Inc.
- The deadline for on time
receipt of dues payments for 2002 has passed (according to the
By-Laws, that date is 31 March each year). Those of you who still want to
qualify for the member group rates at International Festival 2002 had
better get those checks mailed in pronto or be prepared to pay the
full outside vendor rates!
- Guest speaker for our May 13th
meeting is Nick Jokay, vice-chairman of the World Hovercraft
Championships, which take place on the Wabash River at Terre Haute in
September with teams from around the globe. You can read more about the
event on our website calendar, and at http://www.whc2002.com (World Hovercraft Championships).
- Business cards for NCI
board members (with NCI contact information) will be distributed at
the May meeting. (Board members: If you want to be sure to get yours,
be there.)
- Three key items are on the International
Festival discussion agenda: appointment of the 2002 Festival team, dates
for the 2003 festival (yes, 2003 we need to supply them to
the Indiana Department of Tourism no later than 15 June 2002 to
meet their publication deadlines), and, finally, updating the sales limits
for cultural booths.
- If you have a favorite Festival
Team slot, let me know before the meeting.
- We dont want to conflict
with Halloween in 2003; how about the second weekend in November instead?
Wed like to pick a time slot that can be repeated each year
after this year into the foreseeable future (this year were stuck
with 31 October 3 November). Check with other members of your groups,
please.
- The consensus among groups
participating in the 2001 International Festival was that the current sales
limits for cultural booths are too low. For 2002 wed like to allow a
maximum of four separate items (objectively representative of the target
culture) for no more than $5 each remembering that items at 50
and $1 sell well!
- Were still hashing out
details of NCIs own festivals brochure for 2002. If youve got
information on an Indianapolis-area ethnic festival (open to the public)
and its not on our website calendar, please e-mail me the details as soon
as possible.
- Got a group website?
Tell us so we can add a link to your group and, from your groups
site, please add a link to ours: http://www.nationalitiescouncil.org.
While youre at it, check your groups information on our site to be sure
its up to date.
- Everyonemember or
not-- is welcome to attend NCI general meetings on the second
Monday of each month (except December and January) at 7 p.m. in the
Athenum, 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis. You dont have to be
a member to come but we actively seek and welcome new members.
- Although
The Ethnic Hoosier goes to all who are (or might be) interested,
this supplement is prepared only for NCI members.
