Presidents Message.

Let's try this again!  One of the attachments to this electronic newsletter is an application for membership in the Nationalities Council of Indiana. I'm sure we have supporters out there who would like to be members, if for no other reason than to be able to take some pride of ownership in what we are doing!

The ethnic festival season begins this month with Cinco de Mayo. Unfortunately (due to the SARS epidemic), the Taiwanese-American Association of Indianapolis has canceled its second annual "Taste of Taiwan" on 11 May. NCI members are invited to a performance by the Taiwanese cultural troupe of aboriginal Tsou dancers that day, but seating is very limited. The 11th annual Russian Festival is at Clowes 18 May.

Check our website calendar for more ethnic festivals in Indy, including Italian and Middle Eastern Festivals (June), Celebration of India (August), German Oktoberfest, French Market, Slovenian and Irish Festivals (September), and the biggest one of all, our own International Festival at the Indiana State Fairgrounds 6-9 November.

Our special guest at the next meeting of the Nationalities Council on Monday, 12 May, will be the new executive director of the
Hispanic Center. Please come join us!

To read more, go to the online newsletter of the East Asian Studies Center at IU: http://www.indiana.edu/~easc/newsletter/index.html.

El Sol de Tala Restaurant has opened a second location in Indy's Union Station? It's worth a trip just to see the hand-carved, hand-painted chairs from Cuanajo, Mexico!
