NCI Update�

�� Plans for this year�s International Festival are well underway. The entertainment schedule is almost complete, but there are a handful of spaces left for food booths and merchandise vendors. Ethnic groups are putting the finishing touches on their cultural displays, and everyone is getting ready for the opening ceremonies featuring Mayor Bart Peterson and his wife, Amy Minick Peterson, at 10 a.m. on 31 October!

�� And, speaking of Mayor Peterson, don�t forget to complete your nomination of the Nationalities Council for his annual Celebration of Diversity Award. Download the form from the internet (http://www.indygov.org/mayor) or call 317:327-3601 to ask for one to be mailed to you. The deadline is 15 October, so you need to get that nomination turned in well before our own �celebration of diversity� begins at the end of this month!

Since 1998, when the Indiana Department of Education entered into an agreement with Spain, the state has hosted 23 visiting teachers from the Iberian country?
�Brian Hudson, principal of Covenant Christian High School in Indianapolis, travels to China this month to work on a link between his school and one in Guangzhou? The trip was arranged by Pacific Link International Exchange Students of South Bend.
Indiana�s only Pediatric Travel Medicine Clinic is located at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis? Founded and directed by Dr. John Christenson, it�s run in cooperation with the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases of the Indiana University School of Medicine at IUPUI. Specialties are the evaluation and treatment of pediatric travel-related illness as well as the prevention of international travel-related medical problems in children.
The Ensemble Music Society�s 2002-3 season features artists from around the globe? The international chamber music series includes the Endellion String Quartet from Britain, Budapest Strings, Brazilian Guitar Quartet, Prazak Quartet, American String Quartet and the Ahn Trio from Korea.
You can "Learn Spanish with a Friend" at the Zionsville Community Center? Classes begin 28 October and are held from 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through 24 November. Instructor is Sylvia Fajardo.

In Memoriam:

Lewis Forbes, who represented the Scottish Society of Indianapolis at NCI, died 14 September 2002.
Dr. Bhabani Mohanty, a trustee of the India Association of Indianapolis and former editor of Bharathi, died 12 September 2002.
