Presidents Message.

As I write this I have just come from the downtown United in Diversity Celebration many of you attended on 24 August.  I am proud to say that our own Susan McKee was part of the planning group for this event, which looks like it will become an annual event. Our own Indianapolis Minyo Dancers were the opening act, and Shola Ajiboye, chief executive officer of our newest member group, the African Community International Center, spoke at the event.  Thanks, too, to Pat Hubley for setting up an International Festival booth. A BIG thank you to coordinator Karen Celestino Horseman for her efforts in proving that Indianapolis not only wants but treasures diversity!

I can't tell you how many other members of the NCI were there, but I know that at least Nigeria, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Slovakia, France, India, Taiwan, Slovenia, and Switzerland were represented, and there were other people there who were members of our member organizations from Peru, the West Indies -- and doubtless other groups as well. All of which just goes to show that, while the International Festival may the the "Big Show" from our perspective, it certainly is not all that we do, as groups or as individuals.

There's a better world to be made, and I'm SO proud to be a part of a group that works to make it. Every chance we get! If you aren't a member yet, and you care about making this a smaller, better world (to quote John Lennon) "I hope some day you'll join us, and the world will be as one!"

Kudos:

To the following groups for participating at the Indiana State Fair to support the Nationalities Council of Indiana and the 2003 International Festival: Die Fledermaeuschen Tanzgruppe, Philippine Barangay Dancers and Indianapolis Minyo Dancers.
