History, Mission
Organized in 1920, the English-Speaking Union of the United States is a non-profit, non-political, educational organization committed to promoting scholarship and the advancement of knowledge through the effective use of English in an expanding global community.
The Indianapolis branch is one of 76 in the U.S. and shares the above mission with more than 50 international branches.
Activities
- Support of a workshop for local middle and high school English and drama teachers to increase their skills and enthusiasm in teaching Shakespeare
- Sponsorship and management of the state qualifying event for the National Shakespeare Competition for students in grades 10 through 12
- Support of our scholarship which annually sends one area high school educator to the British Universities Summer School program
- Create a workshop for students to develop their skills in the interpretaton and performance of Shakespeare.
