History, Mission

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a 220,000 member grassroots advocacy organization focussed on its mission of "eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by these diseases."

NAMI Indiana has an international outreach with a sister mental health advocacy organization in Latvia called "Gaismas Stars" (ray of light - hope), which, in turn, cooperates with Pelguranna Supporte Centre in Estonia (contact: Mrs. Triin Vana), Club 13 and Co. in Lithuania (contact: Mrs. Danguole Survilate), and World Fellowship for Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (e-mail).
