President's Message
February 2012

I want to thank the NCI Winter Gala Committee for organizing such a fun event (January 14th). There were over 100 attendees and many ethnic groups were represented. I especially liked Marlon’s Cha Cha dance routine. I did not know he was so light on his feet. Do we have a Dancing for the Stars candidate? I want to mention this again that I look forward in working with our newly elected officers and board members. It is exciting right now planning for the 2012 International Festival. Committees are being formed to take up the challenge of getting all the work done to have another successful festival. We at NCI invite you to volunteer for a committee of your choice and make a real impact. If your Ethnic Group is not represented in NCI please contact me and I will help sign your group up.
The 2011 festival was one of the biggest in the last 35 years. Attendance was over 20,000 with over 6,500 elementary, middle and high school students attending. Walking through the festival during student times I could see that the festival was a big hit again with all the kids. There are many educational programs for 2012 that are being planned. If you are an educator with any ideas, this would be a great way to test them. For February and March NCI monthly meetings, I would like to begin the discussion what theme NCI should move forward with so that all of our member groups have plenty of time to create and put together their International Festival booths.
For February and Super Bowl (February 2-4th) week there is an opportunity to put together a booth for Lafayette Square International Marketplace Super Bowl Celebration. If there are volunteers that can set up the booth and man it, NCI would be grateful. This would be a great opportunity to reach out to ethnic groups that are not members of NCI.
For May the Nationalities Council of Indiana will be participating in the 500 Parade. Please put this on your calendar and come and walk the parade route with us in your ethnic attire. We will have more information in March. Your group must be members to be invited to walk with NCI.

NCI monthly meetings are open to the public and we look forward to welcoming guests interested in the council and its mission. The council meets on the second Monday of the month (February 13th) at 7:00 pm at the Max Kade Room at the Athenaeum located at the SE corner of New Jersey and Michigan Streets, Indianapolis. See you there!!!
